InactiveThis school year my son was put in PreK4 self-contained classroom in a Public School through JC Board of Education’s early intervention program (he was diagnosed under autism spectrum disorder) . Just after 2 weeks of school his case manager & school psychologist contacted me & mentioned he does not belong there & just need an inclusion or integrated classroom. She mentioned he is a high functioning kid & needs to be in a regular classroom with IEP. Since then, case manager & myself are trying to find him a place in one of these classes but Board of Education had been refusing (or delaying) our request by saying that there are no seats available for him anywhere in school district.
Under No Child Left Behind policy, some school, somewhere must adjust him & provide him the education he needs. I’m exhausted working through JCBOE & ready to put my son into a private school & give him private therapy separately.
Does someone knows any private (or affiliated Public) Pre-schools in JC downtown area that can take him into a regular class. I already enrolled him into speech therapy & OT at Sensory Kids & Social Minds.
Thanks!!

InactiveIf I were you, I’d visit P.S. 37/Cordero in person. I’d ask to speak with the case manager, social worker, and/or Pre-K inclusion head teacher. Cordero offers 1 self-contained Pre-K classroom (3 & 4 merged) and 1 Pre-K inclusion classroom (3 & 4 merged). Take all pertinent documentation with you, especially that which describes your son as high functioning, and STRESS the DIRE need for an inclusion program for your son. You gotta do what you gotta do! Hell, I’d do it. Cordero’s inclusion program is probably the best in all of Jersey City. Good luck!
