How To Volunteer + Donate In Jersey City During The Coronavirus Outbreak

As the coronavirus outbreak grows around us, many people in the community are being affected on a daily basis. We have created this guide for those who would like to support the ones in need during this unfortunate time. Take a look at this list on how you can help today!

Hoboken Shelter

The Hoboken Shelter’s mission is to be a community partnership that transforms lives by providing meals for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, and services to support people to become housed. Hoboken Shelter is always looking for donations(donate here) but they also have an Amazon wishlist that they have been updating. At the moment they are asking for daily donations of bananas, oranges, gronala bars and apples. You can also donate pizza’s directly. They can only serve pre packed food so they are asking for sandwiches or any food in individual containers.

Family Promise

With humble beginnings, Family Promise has been working towards ending family homelessness. Family Promise has come to represent not just the programs that touch the lives of more than 93,000 people in need annually and engage more than 200,000 volunteers. Low-income are hit very hard by COVID-19 and due to the loss of wages, childcare, food and transportation, they are experiencing homelessness. You can donate to them here. 100% donations will go to the families affected by Covid-19.

The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross now faces a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations during this coronavirus outbreak. Healthy individuals are needed to donate now to help patients counting on lifesaving blood. Go ahead and make your appointmet here. 

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army of New Jersey is committed to meeting the needs of our community during the Coronavirus pandemic. Ensuring the safety of those who depend on The Salvation Army’s programs and services, along with the safety of their volunteers and staff, is of the utmost priority. They are anticipating, and planning for, an increase in need. Go ahead and help them by donating here.

Feeding America

This nonprofit’s mission is to “feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.” To donate click here.

St Lucy’s Shelter

St. Lucy’s Emergency Shelter is an emergency shelter facility for single women and men offering emergency housing and food for those in need. The shelter is monitored 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, year-round. St. Lucy’s Shelter meets with those in need and assess buy liquid isotretinoin their situation. At the moment St. Lucy’s shelter needs supplies like wipes, paper towels, toilet paper and hand sanitizers.

Hope House

Hope House is an emergency shelter for homeless women with children. Housing up to 20 mothers and their children, the program offers short-term supervised residence, including three meals a day, assessment/planning, case management, housing, education, food, and clothing. At the moment they need hand sanitizers, wipes, toilet paper, paper towels, diapers for children and other everyday essentials.

AngelaCARES

AngelaCARES, Inc. (ACI) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization which began on October 20, 2011. AngelaCARES values teamwork, respect, accountability and innovation! Their mission is to serve as an advocate and support system for senior citizens, a support system for senior caregivers and a mentor to the youth by educating and empowering them to volunteer. Donate Meals to JCMC

With everything that is happening around us with coronavirus, the heroes on the true frontline of the coronavirus crisis are: nurses, doctors, and staffers at local hospitals. They have been working tirelessly to help coronavirus patients even after have a shortage of supplies. We want to help them with you by donating a nice meal for them after working for hours. Sending a yummy meal can always help during this overwhelming time!

If you are a restaurant or just someone who would like to donate meals to our healthcare workers at Jersey Medical Center, please reach out to us and we will connect you to them. You can always order from a local business and get it delivered there too. This supports our small businesses as well!

RLC JC

Help deliver surplus food from local restaurants, caterers and grocers to communities in need in Jersey City. The Jersey City branch of Rescuing Leftover Cuisine launched in March 2020. Our volunteers pick up perfectly good surplus food from vendors and deliver it directly to homeless shelters, pantries and other human service agencies in the area. By volunteering, you help reduce food waste and alleviate food insecurity all at the same time. Once you register to volunteer, you can choose a volunteer event from our calendar.
