Mother’s Day Celebration At Home

Mother’s Day is super special but if your family has decided to celebrate it at home to be safer, this guide is perfect for you. While dedicating a day in their honor is meaningful, dedicating all of our days to making them smile is even more so. However, a Mother’s Day celebration at home can be a tricky one which is why we have created this blog to help you! If you are celebrating the day with your mom, your wife, a friend, or your sister who is a mom, these quick ideas can really make the day so more special.

So, what is it that you can do? Prepare the grounds first. Start with a little (or a lot) of cleaning on time so the home sparkles on Mother’s Day. The more time of the day you free for her, the more time you will spend together doing fun things from home. Then, think of the little things a mom loves but doesn’t have time to enjoy often and try to provide some of them for her. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just let her know that you care.

Offer A Helping Hand Or Two

Perhaps the most important thing you can do is to give your mother a day off. Motherhood feels like a blessing until one needs to yell pick up your socks! for the hundredth time. It would be ideal if everybody did their little share of daily chores so mothers are not overburdened. Mother’s Day celebration serves, in a way, to remind us of everything our mothers did and do to make us happy. The least we can do is return the favor. So, having in mind that Mother’s Day is celebrated on May 10, which is the second Sunday in May, there is plenty of time to organize a warm, cozy celebration in a clean, decluttered home. You and the rest of your family should take the time to put your belongings in their proper place. For everything else, including winter seasonal items, there is an option to rent storage to declutter your space. Your mother will be happy if she doesn’t have to clean this time; she will be proud and exalted if she gets the same appreciation throughout the year. Even a little help means a lot to every mother.

Breakfast In Bed Is Always A Good Idea

Make a special breakfast for her this Mother’s Day. Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Make a plan and order groceries online in advance, as you need to account for possible delays. To start your Mother’s Day celebration at home, take out a tray, and fill it with tasty goodies she likes. Surprise her with your Googling (and cooking) skills in a good way. Here are some suggestions:

Breakfast in bed – Idea #1

  • Warm coffee, just the way your mom likes it
  • Freshly squeezed juice
  • Her favorite pastry
  • Fruit marmalade or a jar of Nutella (YOLO)
  • A custom-made greeting card (non-edible!)

Breakfast in bed – Idea #2

  • Herbal tea
  • Pancakes with her favorite dressing (read: ice cream)
  • Mixed fruit salad
  • Scented candle (also non-edible even though it smells great)
  • A flower you picked in your backyard or an origami flower you made

Breakfast in bed – Idea #3

  • Coffee
  • A cocktail (by definition, it is a combo of at least three ingredients; mix two fruit juices, pour them in a tall glass over some ice and add a little piece of fruit on top.)
  • French toast with ham (sounds classy, tastes even better)
  • Play a video greeting that you, your dad, and your siblings recorded for the occasion (delicious!)

If there are no volunteers ready to try and risk cooking lunch or dinner, order your mom’s favorite dish from the nearby restaurant that is offering takeout and delivery.  And besides, nobody wants to stay hungry on this important day. Eggs Benedict, Mac, and cheese, pizza, french toast? Bring it on. You can also try to make bruschetta for dinner. This fancy Italian snack is nothing else but little toasted pieces of bread covered in basically anything you got in your fridge. Try tiny pieces of ham, cheese, cherry tomatoes, and olives.

Spend (Quality) Time Together

Show how much you appreciate her by leaving her enough time to do something she likes. That was the whole point of decluttering, cleaning, and preparing food. It takes so much time. Of course, you can spend the time between meals taking silly selfies with your family, watching Netflix kids’ shows together, or doing something creative. But allow her some time off. Pamper her by preparing a warm bath or simply let her read her favorite book or do a face mask. Also, if you don’t live with your mom, spend time with her on video chat. Or you can order food for both of you and have a meal during a video call. Share funny memories and raise your mom’s spirits, as she is most certainly worried about how you are doing. Most importantly, make her smile by sharing some inside jokes. At the end of the day, there isn’t a better gift for a mom nor greater reward for you than that.

Gifts for Her

It’s always nice to receive a gift on Mother’s Day with her favorite flowers. Since the shipping times are delayed and there are not many options available, try ordering from local small businesses who are offering special discounts + offers during this time.  Most of the local businesses will be very accommodating and much faster to ship and deliver your items. Do make sure to order as soon as possible so that the gift is right on time for Mother’s Day. You can also make a fun DIY gift for her at home. Check out this DIY Activated Charcoal Face Mask that you can make with ingredients at home. This is so special since it’s homemade and you can always add it to a cute jar and decorate it! Cards are always a great idea from the kids. Any mom would love to receive one!
